Unable to mount Windows share in Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 14, 2013
I have a Windows server 2012 Domain Controller + dhcp + dns fully working (home.ad).
I have the latest version of stable Ubuntu server on another machine.
Ubuntu is not part of the domain.
I have shared one folder from the server 2012 with Everyone/Everyone so it should be visible.
The network share is:
On the Ubuntu machine I have installed smbfs and tried mounting it with no success.
There seems to be multiple ways to do this, but none seems to work.
I need to map that drive permanently so that I can always access it so I added the entry to my /etc/fstab
//SERVER/TimeCapsule /mnt/ntserver cifs uid=1000 user=HOME\Administrator password=gra$$ 0 0
but I just get Line 13 is bad. Big help.
Can anyone give us a hand?
Ubuntu server 'Failed to mount Windows share' on another Ubuntu server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 12, 2013
Have a Ubuntu Server 12.04 serving a mix of Windows boxes, the Samba shares utilising the 'Guest' account, share access wthout problem.
Some of the shares are USB drives attached to the server, and these USB shares are not accessible to another development Ubuntu Server 12.04 now added to the network.
Messagebox title is 'Unable to mount location', error message text is 'Failed to mount Windows share'.
Any ideas on a workaround, please?

Hello Ubuntu users,
I'm trying to connect to a Windows XP share from my Ubuntu 9.10 server. I thought this would be rather simple - maybe you can show me it is??
On the Windows XP side, I have created a local user "ubuntu" and given the user Full Control of the share. (btw: the XP machine is a member of a domain)
This is how I'm connecting from Ubuntu:
sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.2.153/websrv01_logs /media/bio171_websrv01_logs -v -o username=ubuntu
and this is the error I get back:
mount.cifs kernel mount options: unc=//192.168.2.153\websrv01_logs,ver=1,rw,username=ubun tu,ip=192.168.2.153,pass=********
mount error(12): Cannot allocate memory
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I see this when running dmesg:
CIFS VFS: cifs_read_super: get root inode failed

Failed to mount Windows share problem

I have been searching, re-installing and swearing for weeks. I CAN't access Windows shared on the domain network. This is NOT limited to the domain either as regular Windows shares give me exactly the same message 'Unable to mount location. Failed to mount Windows Share.' I can see every single shared folder but I can't for the life of me open it. I have tried Ubuntu 10.10; 10.04 and 9.04 to no avail. I also tried Linux mint 9 with the exact same problem SuSE on the other had accesses every folder out the box but the entire system is dog slow and I can't get the proprietary nvidia drivers to work. I can create shares that are accessible from a Windows computer on the linux machine but not other way round. I have tried scripts, praying, denying sex, kicking the computer and a host of other things but still can't get this bleeding message to go away and the folder shares to open. Can somebody PLEASE hold my dreary stupid wrinkled little hand and walk me through this before
Error: Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share

I am trying to wirelessly view the shared folders on my Windows 7 PC via the home network, on my laptop running Ubuntu 10:04. In Nautilus I can see all the shared folders on the Windows PC by clicking into Network, the Windows Network, then the name of the workgroup, then the name of the PC in Windows shares on workgroup. But when I try to see the contents of any of the shared folders, I get this error message:
Unable to mount location - Failed to mount Windows share
I am trying to write my thesis and all my resources are on my PC, while I write in my study. But I need access to my extensive PDF library while I work. I keep having to get up and email things to myself! It's really a pain in the ***.
I am pretty new to Ubuntu, and as much as I love it, I don't really know what I'm doing.

Hey all, I'm trying to mount a Windows share that contains white space and I'm not having any luck. Here's my mount command:
Failed to mount Windows share: Permission denied
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 11, 2013
I basically did what is described in the guide at http://www.howtogeek.com/116309/
No problem to share folders in my home directory:
I just rightclick on folder, sharing options, share this folder and
I can find immediately the shared folder in Network/Browse network and access the files in it.
When i try to do the same with a folder located on another partition i had named DATA,
i can actually share the folder, and it also appears when i browse the network,
but when i try to access the folder i get the message:
Failed to mount Windows share: Permission denied
I get this message as well on a windows machine as well as an ubuntu 12.04 machine.
The permissions shown in the properties window are:
for owner, group and others: create and delete files
