Which Ubuntu do I download?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 10, 2014
The HDD on my HP Compaq Presario CQ61-402SA (2GB memory)
has crashed & I want to replace it with a 64Gb SSD.
So I need an OS & thought that I would tiptoe into the world of Ubuntu.
But which one is beat for this laptop & which should I download.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Which Ubuntu do I choose?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 17, 2008
Hi there! I'm new to the forums and new to Ubuntu
On my normal PC I use XP because I can't live without my lovelies like Photoshop and games, but I want to give Ubuntu a try too.
Now I have a laptop, a Dell Latitude c840 (if I'm not mistaken) which has a 1.6ghz processor, 512mb of ram and a Geforce 4 graphics card.
I was browsing the website and noticed 'Xubuntu' which claims to be "faster on older computers".
Now for my question:
1) Is my laptop so old Xubuntu will really be faster than Ubuntu?
2) If so, am I going to miss out on features with Xubuntu? Or will the GUI be butt ugly or anything?
Thanks in advance for any replies

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 9, 2013
Hello everyone, I am completely new to the Linux/Ubuntu and have been curious to try the OS. I have an older computer with a wiped hard drive and downloaded Ubuntu 12 (AMD) version from the website, but when I try to install, it states that I need an i686 version. Where can I find that version to install? Are there alternatives??Thanks in advance, CN

Have iMac 8,1. How do I pick which one to download nad what's the link to that? thanks. I see a lot of documentation on macbooks but not much on imacs.
I downloaded a version of ubuntu 10 lucid and when I "c"-key boot it just blinks an underscore and doesn't boot. That same live cd does load on macbook though.

Which Ubuntu mirror do you use?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 20, 2010
I used to download my updates from the Ubuntu main server. But its just way too slow, dont know why but while updating it takes around 3-4 mins to check for updates, coz it actually downloads some stuff to check, around 5-6 MB of data.
but while updating from say a South African mirror, ubuntumirror.ac.za, the updates take place within a second.
any idea why this is so?
