Wine on Slackware 14 64Bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 23, 2012
So i see this is a popularish topic probably more as 64bit operating systems become more popular. I'm getting overwhelmed and can't figure this out. How can I make it so I can use wine and also wine64? I don't understand the directions it tells me to look at another page for the packages needed...Well I see no needed packages area. Some times it's running 64bit programs directions I find. Basically I first off only care about getting wine itself installed on my 64bit version of slackware 14 lets start there everyone shall we? Thank you.

[SOLVED] Firefox 20 on Slackware 14 64bit really slow.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 13, 2013
Anyone else tried Firefox 20 yet? Normally I just download, extract and copy into /usr/lib(64) then change the link in /usr/bin to point to the new one but for some reason 20 runs really slow. Try to view a web page and one image after another slowly makes its way down.
[SOLVED] system settings and opengl issues Slackware 14 64bit kernel 3.7.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 30, 2013
checked the glxgears I have 3d tried to check system settings and opengl same issue occurs as when I try to play a game such as nexuiz or world of padman which is my display is rendered unusable do to a colorful wavy distortion tried to file a bug report get the same result I assume this is do to the 3.7.1 upgrade since the previous worked like a champ ran across this on Google : http://www.slackware.com/changelog/current.php?cpu=i386 Im running on 64 bit with multitab capabilities my display model is hpl1906 and my graphics card is from motherboard mt68-s2p 70xx.
my question is does anyone know of a manual way to edit the opengl information rather than just viewing it?
as it turns out I needed to run slackpkg reinstall packages and later xconfigure from a console loggin though now believe I could have taken the time to select some options all is as well as it was before*past*
If i delete the xorg file Im able to load games such as urban terror and nexuiz.

Slackware 14 (64Bit Install) on laptop = Terrible battery life?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 29, 2012
First post here. New to the forums. Linux novice.
I just installed Slack on to my laptop this morning while it was charging. I got the install and everything. Played around while it was charging. Now, I take my laptop off the charger and near 30 minutes later, the battery life is nearing 55%. Is battery life an issue with anyone else, or is it something I'm doing?

NVIDIA driver not working on Acer laptop with Slackware 14.0 64bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 9, 2013
I have just installed Slackware 14.0 64-bit on a new Acer Aspire V3-571G, with Geforce GT 640M graphics. I have installed the NVIDIA proprietary driver, but when attempting to load it the X server will not start. Yes, I blacklisted the nouveau driver and rebooted before trying to run it with the NVIDIA driver. The error message just says 'no screens found', and then it quits. I have checked that for sure the nouveau module was not loaded. Oddly, the Nvidia installation script did not detect the nouveau driver, so I had to do the blacklisting manually after I found out about the conflict. But it still didn't help.
I had to un-blacklist nouveau and change xorg.conf to use it again. It seems to work well enough, but I want to use the proprietary one, if possible. Can anyone help?
[SOLVED] Segmentation Fault in dosbox with Slackware 14.0 64bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 13, 2013
I actually found the solution to my problem but I thought I would post it here anyway in case somebody else also had problems.
After upgrading to Slackware 64.0 I found that dosbox segfaulted when I attempted to run it.
So I downloaded the latest version from Slackbuilds (same source but a patch file had been added). At first, I couldn't run it (it seemed to have problems installing /usr/bin/dosbox) so I tried using src2pkg and this time the build was successful (src2pkg applied the patch). But when I tried to run dosbox, I got the
"Segmentation Fault" again!
Since I also have multilib support on my machine (for Skype) I decided to compile it as a 32-bit program. This time it worked.
[SOLVED] Oracle VirtualBox4.3.4 64bit Slackware 14.1 No USB Support
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 1, 2013
This one's got me stumped. I upgraded from Oracle VirtualBox-4.2.18 to 4.3.4 in Slackware 14.1 and there's no USB support (it's grayed-out) in the guest OS (Win7). I installed the Extension Pack in VirtualBox and the Guest Additions in Win7 (in "safe mode") as usual. It's a "clean install" of Slackware 14.1; everything is 64-bit.
Of course things worked fine in 14.0 and I think I may have missed something about USB support in 14.1? Win7 works fine (did have to change the audio to the ALSA Audio Driver (/etc/rc.d/rc.alsa-oss is not executed on boot per the recommendation in that file) and sound works, video works, the mouse works but ain't no USB for the printer or any other USB device.
