Wireless driver on Acer Travelmate 2410
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 25, 2010
Hi,
I am a completely new user of Ubuntu. I have installted the current version, 9.10, which went smooth and without any problems. Though I am experiencing troubles getting my wireless internet up and go.
I have found that the laptop's network controller is the following: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 AirForce One 54g.
I have googled for hours but no solution found has solved my problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Getting Wireless Network operating in Acer Travelmate 2350 Using Ubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 25, 2013
Hi All,
I have taken the plunge and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Acer Laptop, Travelmate 2350. I have managed to install InProCom Inc network card, using IPN2220 driver.
I have installed ndswrapper and know what Terminal is, though what the commands are or do...I have yet to learn...
However, I have been unable to get the wireless network working. It recognises the driver and network card, but when I go to <Enable Wireless> a box comes up asking me to enter SSID and password. I do this and it tries to connect, (the aerial thing, reverberates at the top), but it doesn't connect, instead the same box comes up and asks for the password again. I have been trying to sort it out for months,on and off, but to no avail.
Your help and advice regarding the next steps would be much appreciated.

Wireless activation button on Acer Travelmate 4720
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 11, 2008
Hi,
just trying to get Kubuntu 8.10 linux up and running on my Acer Travelmate 4720. At the moment nothing seems to be working. Number one priority is to get wireless on, then I can stop switching between windows (where I get to the internet) and linux (to try solutions).
The problem is that this laptop has two switches on the front. They turn wireless and bluetooth on and off. These buttons work with windows vista, and I have no problems using wireless with windows. When I load linux the wireless indicator light is off, and switching the button doesn't turn it on. My wireless card has been detected, but because it seems to be switched off, when I search for wireless networks, none appear.
I've checked the acer website for drivers, and yes they are all for microsoft windows.
So, any ideas how to turn it on? Forgive the newbee's incorrect use of computer words...

PS here's the output of lspci -vv, sorry it all seems to be in one block, line breaks gone.

Acer travelmate hangs on new versions of ubuntu, xubuntu, fedora and linux mint 13
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 20, 2012
The last few years I have been using my acer travelmate laptop as a dual boot system. I have used next to XP several different versions of ubuntu or LinuxMint. The only thing I had to add was a windows-driver for the wifi. That is up until 12.04!!! Every time I tried to install a version of Ubuntu, Fedora or LinuxMint the system hangs. With Ubuntu itself the system got stuck when i tried to check the disk while on live CD mode. I didn't even get to the terminal befor the system stopped in its tracks. I tried the newest version of Debian which worked perfect. The only problem I got there was that Grub didn't show my XP partition. My idea was that maybe Debian doesn't use the newest linux kernel as I also retried to install kubuntu 11.04 without problems. In short my system seems to hang on all the new versions of Linux distributions exept for Debian. What is happening here? Is it the Linux kernel or something else? If it is the kernel, how can I install a new version of Xubuntu for exam

location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 10, 2009
Hi,
I have just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop. But the built-in wireless card doesn't work after the install. The wifi device is Broadcom BCM 4306.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Is there a driver for it?

[SOLVED] Install Broadcom STA wireless driver in Ubuntu Lucid
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 17, 2011
I don't know if this will still interest anybody, but I found a lot of confusing stuff on the www about installing the Broadcom STA wireless driver in ubuntu lucid and had to figure it out myself. This method should work (Tested with 32bit and 64bit on Apple iMac 7.1 and MacBook Pro 5.1):
Update your system.
Install the backported kernel: 2.6.35-28-generic (2.6.35-25-generic in 64bit). Also works with 2.6.35-28-generic-pae.
Boot from it. If you use the nvidia driver and get low graphics mode, choose "run in low graphics mode for one session", reinstall the nvidia driver and reboot. For the ATI driver see this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-fglrx-865082/
Remove the 2.6.32 and older kernels and headers (You want the initramfs updated for 2.6.35, not 2.6.32; if you want an emergency fallback kernel, install 2.6.31-11-rt. No kidding; the rt-kernel is still in the repository and will boot into recovery mode when the newer kernels won't).

installing b43 wireless driver in ubuntu backbox
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 2, 2013
I boot backbox from a usb flash drive as a live iso. I am trying to install wireless drivers for the dell inspiron b120 laptop using the broadcom b43 wireless radio without rebooting. I tried to follow these directions on this site:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=5842.0
I installed b43-fwcutter and downloaded the two files listed to another usb drive (apsta and broadcom) and copied the files to the running backbox home directory and ran the 6 commands in a terminal.
cd ~
tar xfvj broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
sudo b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o
sudo chmod 775 /lib/firmware/b43
sudo chmod 775 /lib/firmware/b43legacy
This link goes into further detail on installing the driver for the particular chip set. It seems straight forward, however, I am not sure which ubuntu I am using with backbox 3.0.
