Wireless will not enable
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 6, 2010
Ok I used the windows executable wubii installation for xubuntu 10.04 I'm not dual booting.
My problem is all indications in the user interface are selected "enable networking" "enable wireless" and my wireless switch was on throughout and was connected to the internet during the installation in windows.
sudo lshw -C network
Logical name: wlan0
Again every thing is selected to be enabled and has been so throughout the installation I don't have a land line to connect too do to the fact I'm using a friends internet connection.
Dell Latitude D610 FN+F2 will not enable wireless help!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 14, 2010
I was just recently given a Dell Latitude D610 from someone who didn't want it. It came with Windows XP Pro on it, and I logged in real quick to check things out. Wireless was working as it should and the FN + F2 key combination was enabling/disabling the wireless card as it is supposed to.
Installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 and wiped the entire disk to use with Ubuntu. Upon setting everything up, I installed ndiswrapper and installed the driver for this laptop's wireless card. I am familiar with ndiswrapper and have used it many times, so I know my workflow with that was correct.
After installing the driver, I couldn't find the device anywhere in network manager. I noticed the WiFi light is not turned on, and thus probably the root of my problem here. I tried pressing FN + F2 (the wireless enable/disable key combo for this model laptop), and I get no response. The light WiFi light does not come on. I've seen on other forums that the light may not come on,
ati drivers will not enable
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 8, 2007
ok i just did a minor upgrade on a really old pc. stuck an ati 9600 pro into it. booted the computer up, went into low graphics mode and once i was logged in, ubuntu picked up the card, downloaded the drivers, then told me to restart. i did the restart but the driver will not become enabled. i went into the restricted drivers menu, the driver is listed there with a check mark, however there is a red light saying "not enabled". i tried another restart again hoping that would get the driver enabled. when booting up xorg tries to start up a few times but then gives up. im now just looking at a command prompt. i tried to log in, it looks like it does the log in, but then brings me right back to the login prompt.
After installing KDE 4.4.5 on Debian Squeeze wireless will not connect
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 3, 2011
I am running the latest Debian squeeze (stable) on an old HP Laptop with a Broadcom B4318 wireless card. I have the correct drivers and if I boot into my GNOME desktop environment the wireless card works just fine. However I like the KDE desktop better so I installed that and now if I boot into KDE my wireless network card will not connect to my wireless network.
Output from iwconfig (KDE):
wireless will not work mac

Okay. I have spent the last week trying to install Ubuntu NBR (Netbook Remix) onto my MacBook3,1. I tried lots of ways, and the best way for me is to use Boot Camp to create the partition. I can boot up into Ubuntu and everything, but many things are amiss.
1. My wireless will not work. I have tried going into the network thing under System -> Administration but nothing is there.
2. When I try the CD of Ubuntu that I made without installing it, everything works fine (besides the track pad). Internet works and it tells me that I have drivers working specifically because none of the preferred drivers were available or something like that.
Please help me with this. I really see the potential of Ubuntu NBR on my MacBook.
ALSO, I HAVE VISITED THIS LINK: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
Many forums say I need that driver to install it on Ubuntu, but how do I do this?
Thank you for your time. I really appreciate this as I have spent sooo many
Wifi will not enable on HP Pavilion G6
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 5, 2012
So I am experimenting with Fedora 15 on an HP Pavilion G6 laptop and everything was going smooth. Then I went to connect to my router via Wifi and ran into an issue. (also experienced this issue on Ubuntu as well on the same computer)
On the laptop itself the wifi light is red and enabling with the "fn" key will not enable the adapter and the light stays red. When I go into the networking settings there are no settings about wireless connections i.e "enable wireless" "wireless settings". I am new to Linux and am drawing a blank on what to do.

Atheros AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter Will NOT Connect
- date: July 6, 2013
Hi-- I am seeking the help of the linux experts here.
I've been installing linux as a newbie on 4 computers.
Sometimes Linux doesn't automatically get the wireless cards going right away.
I seek answers on the forums and then they work -- even though I don't usually fully comprehend what commands I am putting in.
Well that streak of luck has ended. I simply cannot get this wireless card working. It maybe a hardware issue.
I have even reinstalled the kernel = 3.2.0-49-generic
I am running Xubuntu Precise = Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS \n \l
I am working with a Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7802 laptop.
Here's some info to use in helping diagnose. Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Asus eee pc 1001px will not find wireless extensions
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 28, 2010
Just bought a netbook, ASUS Eee PC 1001PX, and got rid of the crappy XP pre-installed. first i put netbook remix on it, and tried many downloads and ndiswrapper to fix the wireless problem. then i went ahead and put another form of ubuntu on it thinking it might have the right drivers need to use the built-in wireless card, nothing. i dl all updates and bug fixes. i went to atheros to download the only driver they have for linux in the AR8132 class but still not helping. although i am not sure if i even installed. once dl it only extracted itself. i couldnt figure out how to run. if someone has this type of netbook it would be awesome. everything works on it except wireless and headphone jack. i know its just cosmetics but it would be nice if all hardware worked.
Wireless internet will not work on Damn Small Linux.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 11, 2008
I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161
It has an Atheros AR5004G Wireless Network Adapter.
The problem I have with this is I don't really understand anything about the WLAN setup and settings in any linux distro. They have so much information to input. I can't even get my computer to connect to an unprotected router with the default SSID. Can Anyone tell me how to set this up would make working on my linux work so much easier if i didn't have to continuously boot between DSL and windows all the time when i need to get the internet.
