XRDP Xsession Errors
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 14, 2013
So I'm using xrdp to remote in to my linux box running xubuntu 13. I had some issues originally logging in getting a gnome error keeping me from doing the session, which I was able to fix thanks to this:
I get "Failed to load session "ubuntu-2d" when using XRDP
I can now log in but get a crash report titled "xfsettingsd crashed with SIGSEGV in xfce_shortcuts_grabber_add". Many of the icons as well as the xfce theme are missing and I get broken icons and a basic menu bar, rather than the new icons and theme. Would anyone know a solution for this?
~Thanks
xrdp giving authentication errors
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2014
I am using xrdp to remote login to my Xubuntu desktop addition. Whenever I try to install anything or access system settings I get the following error:
Authentication Error
Software can't be installed or removed because the authentication service is not available.
I can install the application without any issues if I do it directly.
Any idea as to what I might have done wrong with xrdp configuration?
[SOLVED] proFTPd server, ok in Ubuntu 12.04, errors in Xubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 5, 2013
Hello all;
I am trying to set up proFTPd server at home, in Xubuntu 12.04 x64, and I am obtaining correction problems, it rejects all the conexions. At work in Ubuntu 12.04 x64, works perfect.
In both cases, I simply edit /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf and I only change the user and user group.
Next restart, and I perform a FileZilla client conection, with IP= localhost, user and user password.
In machines with Ubuntu works perfect with either ufw enabled or disabled, in my home Xubuntu, rejects all conexions.
I simply do not find any explanation for this. Internally both systems are supposed to be the same...
Does anyone have any idea?
Thank you all very much in advance...
12.04 dual boot with windows 7 random errors, multiple installs, very confused
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 16, 2013
General problem: Installed / reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 multiple times along side Window 7. Each install yields a different error. Sometimes Ubuntu can't boot, sometimes, Ubuntu terminal will not load, etc. Windows 7 boots right every time.
I'd like to determine if Ubuntu 12.04 is just not compatible with my system? Errors are random enough that I am not sure which one to look at or try to solve.
System Specs:
Laptop: Acer Aspire S3 with Intel Core i7
Primary OS: Windows 7
I have been using the following steps to reset boot loader / reclaim linux partition and reinstall each time:
http://tonsoftech.com/tech/software/...-installation/
http://tonsoftech.com/tech/software/...g-a-dual-boot/
Thanks, really appreciate the help. Not sure how to approach this problem. I just want a local linux programming environment to code and am really thinking about ditching it to just go to remote access on Amazon or something.

grub2 errors on booting
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 9, 2011
Hiyas,
I have a fresh install of 11.04 and have it installed to an external USB drive. When grub starts prior to getting the grub menu, i get the following 4 errors:
Code:
Error: No such device :120e77e5-40ca-4d84-8700-1fbbb7fad128
Error: No such disk
Error: No suitable mode found
Error: No video mode activated
I am somewhat familiar with grub2, however, i haven't had any luck getting these errors resolved. The grub2 menu is normal black and white low res text, no background displayed. I am also able to boot into Ubuntu.
Here is my current grub.cfg:
Code:
